The Jack Kane Community Centre would like to give a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Kevin Myles and his office colleagues for raising an amazing £460 for the centre.
Kev told us a bit more about how they raised the money:
“Back in January of this year 11 of the people in our office decided to start a ‘Fatty Club’ with the aim to lose a bit of weight before the holiday season began. It was agreed that it would end on the last Wednesday of June. It cost £1 per week to get weighed and a further fine if you put weight on! £1 for every pound or part there off. It became pretty competitive with good banter and loads of laughs along the way. A couple of weeks ago people were asking what we were going to do with the money in the kitty!! A meeting was called – well we went to the conference room and had numerous cups of tea – and I suggested donating it to a charity. This was unanimously agreed round the table and then came decision time. I started off with my pitch about the fantastic work that you and all the great people of the Jack Kane Centre do. It went no further, to a man (& woman) everyone agreed there and then to give the £450 to you. Further to this, one of the lads who wasn’t part of the club overheard us talking and gave a further £10 to the cause. The biggest loser lost 23 ½ stone – fantastic. With a further six of us losing over 1 stone. 11 stone 5lb was the overall weight loss.”
It has been agreed that the funds would be used within the Centre’s Disability Drop-in, which supports families/carers whose child(ren) has a disability or additional support needs. To find out more about the Disability Drop-In visit http://jackkanecommunity.org/groups/youth-and-childrens-groups/the-drop-in/ or contact the centre on 0131-657-1595.
Again, we would like to say a massive thanks to Kev and his colleagues.
